FAQ

Q) What are your adoption fees?

A) Adoption fees are usually $350. Hamburg Mutts for Freedom is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. 100% of all adoption fees go directly to the dogs – veterinary care, food, supplies, shelter “pull” fees, transport costs, etc. Occasionally we will offer a reduced adoption fee for senior or hard-to-place dogs.

Q) What is your adoption process?

A) We first request a completed adoption application. Once received, we will check vet references and conduct a home visit to meet you in person and see the surroundings where the dog would live. Once approved to adopt, we will set up a meet-and-greet with any dogs you might be interested in. We do not allow anyone to adopt a dog directly from one of our adoption events without checking vet references and conducting a home visit.

Q) Do you have a shelter where I can meet the dogs and/or volunteer?

A) We are a foster-based rescue groups. All of our rescue dogs are either in foster homes or, in rare instances, in a local boarding facility if we were unable to find a foster home. We hold regular adoption events for the public to meet our adoptable dogs and we will be happy to arrange meet-and-greets for approved adopters. Volunteers are always needed! Some of the many ways you can help are by attending adoption events (answering questions or walking the dogs around), fundraising, helping with the transport of dogs, conducting home visits to approve adoption applicants, and calling to check vet references. Whatever your talent is, there’s likely a way for you to help Hamburg Mutts for Freedom! Please complete a volunteer application if you would be interested in volunteering.

Q) Do you require adopters to have fenced yards?

A) It depends on the dog. For some high-energy dogs, a fenced yard is mandatory. However, we always consider the personality of the dog when determining whether or not a fence is needed.
